Crimes That Never Were

In Scientology auditing and OW write ups a person is convinced to reveal overts, alleged violations of moral codes, and witholds, alleged hidden ideas and acts.

In my opinion overts and witholds as Ron Hubbard described them don't actually exist. Because he defined them and their relationships to his other terms in ways that are false.

You are better off finding other terms for evil acts and secrets because his ideas have many untrue concepts attached to each other. He mixes lots of ideas and acts like all the information he combines is true.

Many people have complained that information revealed in Scientology auditing was described as protected by priest penitent privilege and sacred. But in Scientology the information is shared and often used against a cult member if they fall out of favor with the cult.

They become fair game and all bets are off. Their utter destruction is required by any means necessary.

This is well known in the Scientology critic community. What's not often discussed is another aspect of the confession in Scientology: false confessions and false memories.

I believe repetitive questions like those used in auditing can covertly provoke false memories and confessions.

So not only are secrets used against former cult members - memories of crimes that never actually occurred are created, confessed to and retained as memories to establish Scientology's hold over cult members while they are in. Then they can be used against the cult members after they leave to either serve as a threat to inspire silence about Scientology or if the ex Scientologist speaks out to manufacture evidence to destroy the person.

I will now include some information on how this has been studied and found to exist. First I want to point out the work of a leading expert on the creation of false memories psychologist Elizabeth Loftus. She has studied the subject extensively for many years.

"Misinformation has the potential for invading our memories when we talk to other people, when we are suggestively interrogated or when we read or view media coverage about some event that we may have experienced ourselves. After more than two decades of exploring the power of misinformation, researchers have learned a great deal about the conditions that make people susceptible to memory modification. Memories are more easily modified, for instance, when the passage of time allows the original memory to fade."

"False memories are constructed by combining actual memories with the content of suggestions received from others. During the process, individuals may forget the source of the information. This is a classic example of source confusion, in which the content and the source become dissociated.

Of course, because we can implant false childhood memories in some individuals in no way implies that all memories that arise after suggestion are necessarily false. Put another way, although experimental work on the creation of false memories may raise doubt about the validity of long-buried memories, such as repeated trauma, it in no way disproves them. Without corroboration, there is little that can be done to help even the most experienced evaluator to differentiate true memories from ones that were suggestively planted." Elizabeth Loftus

From her article:
Creating False Memories

In cult circles Robert Jay Lifton was a top expert in brainwashing and studied it extensively.  He described eight criteria for thought reform. Of particular relevance is the cult of confession which I will quote an article on:

Robert Jay Lifton Eight Criteria For Thought Reform

  The Cult of Confession

Closely related to the demand for absolute purity is an obsession with personal confession. Confession is carried beyond its ordinary religious, legal, and therapeutic expressions to the point of becoming a cult in itself. There is the demand that one confess to crimes one has not

committed, to sinfulness that is artificially induced, in the name of a cure that is arbitrarily imposed. Such demands are made possible not only by the ubiquitous human tendencies toward guilt and shame but also by the need to give expression to these tendencies. In totalist hands, confession becomes a means of exploiting, rather than offering solace for, these vulnerabilities.

Also the technique known as the Truth Rundown is perhaps the most concentrated brainwashing ever. It involves use of the E meter and repetitive questions about imagined hidden evil acts that Sea Org members are told they must have done to make themselves see things Scientology doesn't want them to remember like David Miscavige beating his staff or Scientology not working or any number of other things.

The rundown is described by former Sea Org member Chris Shelton in his video.

Truth Rundown

I will now give you some of Ron Hubbard's own words to support my claim.

"If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace."
- Ron Hubbard, Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter, 15 August 1960, Dept. of Govt. Affairs

"THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them."
- Ron Hubbard, "Off the Time Track," lecture of June 1952, excerpted in JOURNAL OF SCIENTOLOGY issue 18-G, reprinted in TECHNICAL VOLUMES OF DIANETICS & SCIENTOLOGY, vol. 1, p. 418

"We've got some new ways to make slaves here."
- Ron Hubbard, Philadelphia Doctorate Course lecture 20, 1952.

"Did you ever read poor old George Orwell’s 1984? Yes, yes, that’s wonderful. That would be — could be the palest imagined shadow of what a world would be like under the rule of the secret use of Scientology with no remedy in coexistence".  Ron Hubbard    PDC lecture of 6 December 1952 “Formative State of Scientology, Definition of Logic”

"BRAINWASHING, 1. brainwashing is a very simple mechanism. One gets a person to agree that something might be a certain way and then drives him by introverting him and through self-criticism to the possibility that it is that way. Only then does a man believe that the erroneous fact was a truth . . ."

Modern Management Technology Defined Ron Hubbard

And from his affirmations (self hypnosis commands meant to never be seen by anyone else)

"Material things are yours for the asking. Men are your slaves. Elemental spirits are your slaves. You are power among powers, light in the darkness, beauty in all."

"Your psychology is advanced and true and wonderful. It hypnotizes people. It predicts their emotions, for you are their ruler."

"No matter what lies you may tell others they have no physical effect on you of any kind."

"You are crown prince of your portion of the universe. Everything does your bidding perfectly. All elementals and other dimensional things obey you with eagerness. All things love you and their love makes you strong. You are strong. You love with great force all things and your will controls them. You may use force and your will with utter impunity for all things obey."

"You use the minds of men. They do not use your mind or affect it in any way. "

" You need never defend your motives to anyone because your motives are right. You have never done wrong and need never apologize to anyone. You never justify or explain your acts because you are careful that these acts are good and kind.
You can be merciless when your will is crossed and you have the right to be merciless. "
