Like a lot of critics of Scientology I have repeatedly written about Leah Remini including my post of an open letter to her asking her to help expose the abuses and crimes of the Scientology cult.
I have also written on her obviously gradually shifting opinions regarding Scientology and Ron Hubbard himself. It's important for people to understand Scientologists often go from believing everything in Scientology doctrine is true to usually rejecting David Miscavige himself then over time both Ron Hubbard and his technology bit by bit.
As anyone that has seen her show on Scientology and the Aftermath can easily see she has created a powerful effect regarding the awareness of Scientology and the image it has. The ratings for the show have been extremely good and the probability of future seasons or other network commercial projects on Scientology is extremely high.
The show is exposing many people to Scientology in a way that is relevant in several important ways. Her show has been seen by millions of people that may have known very little regarding Scientology and cults in general. It gives plenty of facts about the crimes and abuses Scientology has as its foundation.
Ron Hubbard and David Miscavige have each in their own turn as Scientology leader committed thousands and thousands of crimes as part of a massive criminal conspiracy that has lasted decades. Defrauding thousands of people out of billions of dollars is in many ways one of the least offensive aspects of the effect the Scientology cult has created. It destroys families and ruins the lives of people routinely.
The dark reality of cultic abuse and crimes is something far different from gossip about Scientology celebrities like Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley and John Travolta. It's also separate from the esoteric upper levels that are hidden from most Scientologists. They in truth are largely plagiarized failed methods from other cults, hypnosis, psychology and a variety of other sources that in their own turn produced no miracles and provided no profound wisdom or transcendent truths.
Repackaged duds is perhaps the best way to describe all of Dianetics and Scientology. Hubbard was a prolific plagiarist and practiced pathological liar. His dishonesty may have been equalled by his pride. He had the extreme narcissism to have once claimed God himself could not do the job Hubbard was required to do in Scientology.
His unshakable confidence and vast toolbox of stolen ideas was enough to convince thousands of Scientologists of his claims of infallible perfection and ability. He was skilled enough as a liar to scrape off the serial numbers of the creators of the methods he stole enough to effectively deceive his followers.
The Scientology story has so many twists and turns, so much deception and sheer absurdity it's difficult to understand and believe.
Leah Remini has made an excellent product for certain purposes that puts across her perspective on Scientology and the abuses and crimes she is aware of. It makes the stark reality that Scientology hurts people, destroys families and ruthlessly seeks to utterly ruin any critics it targets easy to understand.
By showing Amy Scobee, Jefferson Hawkins, Tom DeVocht, Mike Rinder, Paulette Cooper, Ron Miscavige Sr, Chris Shelton, Karen De La Carriere and other people with their personal stories of the real history of Scientology Leah Remini makes it clear these crimes and abuses are real and affect real people every day. I have written extensively on why lying and murder are justified in Scientology and how it is standard tech.
The list of projects and books gaining attention from the public due to the show Leah Remini is putting out is tremendous. I personally have found the views at Mockingbird's Nest to have gone up by a factor of about three to five hundred percent recently. Tony Ortega commented that it is similar for him and the Underground Bunker as well as other blogs and websites that specialize in Scientology.
My older posts at ESMB -the Ex Scientologist Message Board -have been seeing an increase in views as well. This means that people who weren't reading about Scientology before are doing it now and they are doing it at critical sites routinely.
I applaud Leah Remini and her efforts. She certainly doesn't need any money or attention the show brings. I also commend everyone involved in making her show as it takes courage to face a bully and make no mistake Hubbard was before as David Miscavige is a bully now. They utterly ruin enemies and ruthlessly destroy people.
The bodies piled up against Scientology easily number in the hundreds or thousands. They play for keeps.
Most critics know or rapidly learn Scientology is not a turn the other cheek game. It's a scorched earth anything goes fair game operation. It's win or die in the attempt.
If Leah Remini gets a fraction of that reality across to a significant fraction of her audience of millions of people that is powerful and can't be denied by Scientology. The people she reaches are a victory in that they are lost as potential recruits for Scientology if nothing else. But I think for some far more will happen and a rejection and repudiation of Scientology will occur. It is not accepted as normal or decent nor should it be. As this attitude shift spreads the effectiveness of Scientology lies and propaganda tactics will grow weaker and eventually it will wither and die. David Miscavige may live long enough to see prison someday. Perhaps he won't.
Either way the long term result is the same. Scientology will fall. And we have too many people to mention to thank for that here but Leah Remini is certainly one.
